Caroline Campbell
MAKER OF VIOLINS AND VIOLAS in the Scottish Kingdom of Fife.
NOTICE OF RETIRAL, Feb 11th 2024
Hello, and thanks for visiting my website, which will continue to run for the time being.
It was never in my plan to call it a day so soon (after all, violin makers are supposed to carry on until they die, right?) - but I began to develop cataracts just as Covid was tailing off and have been unable to do detailed work for a couple of years now.
One eye has finally been fixed, with some hope of the second op coming soon - but due to this lengthy break and no longer being full of youthful energy I have been forced to re-evaluate my chances of resuming work at the required and expected level, and have reluctantly concluded that the time has come to close my business.
There are currently two violins (No 29 and 30, representing my most experienced work), plus a fifth viola, this one 151/4 inches long and possessing a lovely tone, for sale at Tim Wright Fine Violins, 28-30 Marchmont Crescent, Edinburgh (0131 662 0975).
Also, for sale at Bridge Street Violins, Lincoln, are No.6 and No.20, both 4/4 Strad copies, and No.21, a lovely wee 7/8 size instrument with a unique carved head. Laurentius at Bridge St Violins can be contacted on 07375 221607.
So, it's a very big, heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who has supported my business by purchasing an instrument or bringing set-up work to me, by and/or attending one of those Open Days which were so much fun! Thanks are also due to my teachers in Newark, Narelle Freeman and John Gosling, and my long-suffering friends and family.
Very best wishes,
Caroline Campbell
Update, Nov 2025 - with both eyes now functioning well, I now build carved wooden puppets and engage in many other timber-related activities.
